Wal-Mart is not Faux Meat Friendly!

Wal-Mart is not Faux Meat Friendly!

My local grocery store has some great Faux meat selections, but there are brands and faux foods, friends talk about so I decided that since I had to go to a building next door to my Wal-Mart today, I would step inside and see what selections they carried. I was highly disappointed. I found the fake burgers patties in the breakfast isle, next to waffles. It was two shelves with only two brands and they were just thrown in there. Of the two brands, there were only two choices of what you could buy.

So I moved on to try and find fake deli meats, I found nothing, every employee I asked looked at me like I had three heads. There would always be a very long, pregnant pause before I was asked to clarify what I was asking. By the third person, I gave up and went home.

So much for my Wal-Mart’s grocery section, I could not even find stuff to make guacamole with, (My latest craving.) I’m glad I didn’t though; I stopped by my grocery store on the way home and found my favorite guacamole mix on sale, marked down to $.50, I was so excited I actually let out a tiny squeal.

A Close Call

A Close Call

Just down the road from my home; within walking distance, there is a small Chinese restaurant standing alone in the parking lot of a crowded shopping strip on very busy street. I have often found myself coming here when I crave Chinese food and am short on cash, which of course is most of the time. For just under five dollars you can get a fairly large plate of food.

I always order the same thing when I go there, I don’t even think about it. “A-18 please.” I pay and go sit down with a pen and my notebook so that I can get some writing done. I am always distracted however, no matter where I sit; by the TV, normally set on a Chinese game show channel were the games always look just a little painful. And why are there always very young girls cheering in the background?

It’s not long before my food is brought out, I gab my fork, my eyes glued to the screen where the next vic…contestant is taking his or her place on the…well I have no idea what that is, but it looks like its going to hurt. The first bite is almost to my mouth when something tells me to look down, chicken. Crap! I groan rather loudly, but no one looks my way; my groan is downed out by the contestant on the TV who can probably never have children now.

I however stare down in horror at the plate of food in front of me, I just spent my last five dollars on a plate of food most of which I don’t want to eat. I shake my head, and begin eating the rice. My roommate loved the chicken when I brought it home to her. Oh well… live and learn. I’ll miss you A-18.

New Moon is Almost Here

New Moon is Almost Here

As I’m going through my weekly calendar trying desperately to make sure I have not double booked things, everything is up to date I notice a day this week, marked in multiple color’s, Twilight New Moon comes out this week! After going to the main theater as much as I could afford, then the dollar theater multiple times, I am going to finally get to take the movie home to watch whenever I want.

To make things even better in a little over two months (June 30th!!) Eclipse will be out in theaters. I have read, and re-read all the books to the point that I could probably be quizzed and get all the questions right. Sad, very sad, I am well aware. But what can I say: if you enjoy it, do it, at least its healthy!

Thankfully my work schedule is going to work out perfectly so that I can participate in the midnight New Moon release party. I can’t wait!

P.S. Is it just me, or does the date for the Eclipse release keep changing??? LOL!

Eating Vegetarian: Faux Meat: Gardenburger® Black Bean Chipotle Veggie Burger

Eating Vegetarian: Faux Meat: Gardenburger® Black Bean Chipotle Veggie Burger

GB Blackbean

One word, yum! A little bit of welcome spice and the taste of black bean salad on a bun! A little bit of salad dressing, a slice of cheese and of course tomatoes.

I wish I had some cilantro, it would have completed the burger perfectly I think.

I’m afraid that I am probably eating way more crabs then I normally ever do, with chips, bread for sandwiches, burgers and hot dogs. So as a side I had six cucumbers lightly salted with just a tiny bit of ranch dressing. I am full, and very happy.

I am very excited about this new find!

Eating Vegetarian with Faux Meat – Light Life Smart Dogs® Jumbo

Eating Vegetarian with Faux Meat – Light Life Smart Dogs® Jumbo

Smart dogs jumbo

My roommates looked at me like I was insane when I put these jumbo dogs this in my basket. But of the two fake meat products in my cart, this one looked the most like the actual food it is imitating. Besides I want hotdogs! I like to cut them up and put them in my macaroni and cheese. Or in this case, make a good, old fashion hotdog.

On whole wheat bread I place my hot dog, and squirt ketchup and mustard on the sides. A minute and a half after finally getting the dog OUT of the package it was hot and ready to eat. Got to love a quick lunch, I’m hungry, but not that hungry, so I only make one. Maybe I ate it to fast to taste it, but really I tasted almost no difference to this then a normal hotdog. Tonight, I think I am going to go for the Mac and cheese. I can’t wait!

Oh, and who ever it was who said, eww at my choice of hotdog toppings, I did hear you… 🙂

I am quickly becoming excited for pay day to come around so that I get more fake meat items, this is really fun, exciting and slightly scary.

Writing Moods

Wow, I am in a creative mood lately. It’s so nice after such a long writers block! Writing is my meditation, and in the last three days I have written a chapter in my long story, two short stories and four blogs! I have also been taking pictures again. I am feeling so calm and excited all at the same time. I love it!

Eating Vegetarian with Faux Meat: Light Life Smart Deli® Turkey

Eating Vegetarian with Faux Meat: Light Life Smart Deli® Turkey

My first look at the fake meat made me almost stick it back into the fridge. Wow, it looks about as bad as the thought of meat makes me feel. Eww! My first taste, a tiny sliver made me pause. It held the tiny bit of turkey taste, but did not taste bad. So with a heavy sigh and a long pause, I placed two slices on my sandwich, then added Jalapeño cheese, tomatoes, lite salad dressing and a little bit of mustard on whole wheat bread. The ending result was a very delicious sandwich! It had all my favorite flavors including the turkey.

On the side I had the HEB (Texas grocery store) Brand Rice and Auzuki Bean Chips, and a glass of milk. In my store you have to fight for these chips, they are so amazingly delicious. I have only bought Natural Salt so far as I’m addicted. The milk is also HEB brand, this special milk tastes better then any regular milk, and it’s packed with Omega-3s! BONOUS! Now for my bottle of water, before I go searching for a Dr. Pepper. Right now, I still can’t live without DP, or maybe people don’t want to live with me when I haven’t had a DP? <G>
